چکیده

Validation has been performed on the Advanced-Along Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) Sea Surface Temperature (SST) Meteo product data at the Met Office on a daily basis. Meteo product skin SSTs have been compared with point measurements of buoy SST, and a 1-degree climate SST analysis field compiled from in situ measurements and Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer SSTs. These validation results have confirmed the AATSR Meteo product skin SST to be within ±0.3K of in situ data. Preliminary results suggest that new coefficients adopted by ESA are effective in removing the majority of the global mean bias between the 2 and 3 channel retrievals. Three-way error analysis of AATSR, Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer and in situ SSTs gives AATSR the smallest error of 0.15K.

Deriving a Sea Surface Temperature Record Suitable for Climate Change Research from the along - Track Scanning Radiometers

(SST) products currently available from the series of (Advanced) Along Track Scanning Radiometers, or (A)ATSRs, are found have small biases on regional scales (typically up to 0.3 K) and excellent error statistics in validation (~0.25 K or better). Long-term stability is at present poorly characterized. Work towards " version 3 " SSTs is under way within a project called (A)RC: (A)ATSR Re-analy...

Using sea surface temperature measurements from microwave and infrared satellite measurements

The Tropical Rainfall Mapping Mission Microwave Imager (TMI) instrument Sea Surface Temperature (SST) product (v1.0) is compared with in situ observations obtained in the Atlantic Ocean. The TMI SST has a mean warm bias of 0.25K¡0.7K when compared to in situ SST at a depth of 7m. When TMI SST are compared to in situ skin SST measurements, the bias is 0.6K¡0.5K. A limited global comparison betwe...

The Land Surface Temperature Synergistic Processor in BEAM: A Prototype towards Sentinel-3

Land Surface Temperature (LST) is one of the key parameters in the physics of land-surface processes on regional and global scales, combining the results of all surface-atmosphere interactions and energy fluxes between the surface and the atmosphere. With the advent of the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel 3 (S3) satellite, accurate LST retrieval methodologies are being developed by exploiti...

Atsr Maps Coral Bleaching on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef

The Australian Great Barrier Reef (GBR) experienced its most intensive and extensive coral bleaching event on record in early 1998 [1]. This period also saw extensive damage to other reefs around the globe. There is concern among environmental scientists and GBR-based industries, especially tourism, that widespread death and bleaching of corals caused by extremely high temperatures during 1997-...

Effect of sea surface temperature (SST) changes on coral ecosystems in Kish Island

Background and Theoretical Foundations: Coral reefs are one of the world's most attractive ecosystems. They have been covering large parts of the world in the tropic areas. Coral reefs in the Iranian waters of the Persian Gulf are largely limited to the Islands. Many factors, including natural and anthropogenic activities cause stress to the reef communities affecting reef development. Coral bl...
